It’s the job of the portrait photographer to identify which part of the subject’s psyche is most emotionally available and to connect to it. A photograph is the document of that connection. Some people, celebrities especially, carry their psyche on the outside; it’s their special magnetism and it makes them easy to connect with photographically. Opus 40 is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization including a sculpture park, gallery and museum as well as 50 acres of meadows, forested paths and bluestone quarries — including 6.5 acres of earthwork sculpture — in the heart of the Hudson Valley in Saugerties, NY.

Saugerties offers many recreational opportunities as the gateway to both the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, it offers great conditions for hikers, kayakers and canoeists.  At the western end of town, in the Platte Clove area, hikers will find trails with cascading waterfalls, pristine swimming holes and breathtaking vistas from Catskills cliffs.  Kayaking and canoeing are really taking off, both on the Hudson and on the upper Esopus Creek, now home to the beautiful Esopus Bend Nature Preserve.

Though it’s taken awhile for the forces of change to sweep through town, Woodstock’s ever-changing Main Street includes lots of new shops, restaurants, and lodging, making it a definite contender for the coolest destination in the Catskills. Plus, it’s home to one of the best outdoor attractions in the entire Catskills region!
